Polydioxanone (PDO) threads are another tool in our bag of tricks that we may use for tightening and thickening the skin. But what are they? Just as the name suggests, a single PDO filament or ‘thread’ is inserted under the skin to gradually increase our own natural collagen in that area, improving the appearance of fine lines or wrinkles. They are usually placed in a mesh-like form providing support to the area. Imagine you had a magic cream that fixes everything, where would you apply it? That’s where we put threads!!
From the moment the PDO Threads are gently inserted into position, our body activates collagen synthesis in the area of the thread, gradually creating a thicker dermal matrix. You will begin to see results within the first 6 weeks of treatment, and results will continue to improve over the following 2-6 months as your new collagen is produced. PDO Threads gradually dissolve however their effects can be seen for up to 12 months (yes please!).
The gold standard approach is 2 treatments and then annually thereafter.
